Perspective: Housing prices take some buyers out of the market

The housing market will not find its footing until affordability is restored. From the start of the pandemic to the peak in house prices last summer, house prices nationwide rose a whopping 40 percent. The housing market stalled, but homebuilder stocks were up sharply amid signs that sales were starting to improve. House prices in metro areas that got pumped up from remote work move-ins also have some significant adjusting to do. The housing market and homeowners have a tough couple of years ahead.
