Police officer Tasers 95-year-old woman, sparking outcry and inquiry

© iStock Police are conducting an internal investigation into an incident in which a 95-year-old woman was Tasered at an Australian nursing home. An Australian police officer is under review after a 95-year-old woman with dementia was Tasered and hit the floor at a nursing home in New South Wales state. Police told Nowland, who was alone in a small treatment room, to drop the knife, but she did not, Cotter said. An officer activated his Taser and Nowland was struck with it, he said. An initial statement on Wednesday said that “an elderly woman suffered injuries during an interaction with police” and did not mention the use of a Taser.
